Literacy & E.S.L.
The Englewood Public Library Literacy Department welcomes all adults from Englewood and Englewood Cliffs who need help with basic literacy (reading and writing) or with English as a second language. We offer all classes free of charge.
We are a fully accredited affiliate of ProLiteracy America. Our goal is to help students obtain language survival skills, improve their job prospects, attend higher education classes, and participate more fully in the community.
All volunteer tutors take a 15 hour training workshop in techniques for teaching Reading and ESL. Volunteer tutors teach 1.5 to 2 hours per week.
Interested in volunteering? Please know that volunteers are expected to:
- prepare lesson plans ahead of time
- tutor one or more students
- report tutoring hours three times per year
