April 6-7 Book Sale Grosses $2,554

Cynthia Sumner, vice president for book sale, reports that the Friends earned a gross income of $2,554 for the two-day book sale held at the Renaissance Bldg. next to the library.

“We had a lot of help,” said Cynthia, “….the regulars who helped sort…especially Bobbie Bouton-Goldberg and Meg Brower. Serena and Rob Carson, as well as James Cohen did most of the set up.  And 2 of our newest volunteers, Roz Maiden  and Carol Bodian helped during the sale.”

“Irmari Nacht and Dick Burnon handled publicity.  Ella Urdang coordinated the scheduling of the volunteers during the sale and made sure the volunteers had snacks.  Others who assisted during the sale were Arnold Brown, Sigrid Colgan, Ann Davis, Adolfo Borromeo, Lisa Levien, Jennifer Maughn and Louise Schwartz,” Cynthia said.

The next book sale this year will be on Oct. 17 to 20, also at the Renaissance Bldg.

Irmari Nacht among 5 artists featured in “SquareS” exhibit

Five artists explore the square as a format for painting, collage, fiber art and mixed media constructions — at a group exhibit during April at the Englewood Public Library.

“The square shape appeals to my sense of order with its absolute equality of form,” says Irmari Nacht, one of the artists and vice president for publicity of Friends of the Englewood Library.

“At the same time, I need to break up this rigidity with fluid elements that  or relate to an adjacent square.”

Irmari Nacht’s art has been exhibited in every major museum in New Jersey, including the Newark Museum, NJ State Museum, Morris Museum, Montclair Art Museum.

Her work is in several corporate and public collections. She has exhibited internationally, as well as nationally, and received two NJ State Council on the Arts Fellowships in Sculpture. She received a second Puffin Foundation Grant for “Who Am I?”, an interactive project where the viewer becomes part of the artwork.

The other artists exhibiting their selected artwork, on the show titled “SquareS”, are Dale Fried of Cresskill, Patricia Malarcher of Englewood, Won Jo Seo of Englewood Cliffs, and Larry Schulte of New York City.
