THE FRIENDS
SUPPORT THE LIBRARY
Our annual fall book sale gives the community
an opportunity to hunt for real literary treasures at affordable
prices. Please check back closer to the fall for further details on
this year’s.
Last year’s record gross of
$17,500, along with donations, will be used to fund additional
programs and special items outside the library’s budget.
Last year, member donations and
the annual fall book sale helped us to fund:
-
Evening lectures
featuring distinguished speakers such as FDU Professor Emeritus
Benjamin Nelson of Englewood; Dr. Emilie S. Passow, Drexel
University College of Arts and Sciences; and noted Englewood
author Penny Colman.
-
Lectures on job-hunting
techniques,
including
rèsumè writing, interviewing, and social networking Web sites.
-
Concerts featuring the
All Seasons Chamber Players and the Calvin Hill Jazz Trio.
-
Reference works,
including Great Events From History, 1971-2000; Encyclopedia
of the Underground Railroad; The Oxford Encyclopedia of Women;
and the Encyclopedia of Racism.
-
A set of short films by independent filmmakers
to be circulated to the public.
-
The
library newsletter.
In addition, the Friends funded
a renovation of the Mackay Room that included a new paint job.
