Who are we? |
|
We are a fully accredited
affiliate of ProLiteracy America/Worldwide. Originally, we
focused solely on the community’s need for literacy
instruction. More recently, we extended our services to
include English language instruction for the foreign-born. |
|
What do we offer? |
|
We offer one-on-one
tutoring as well as small group instruction in reading,
writing, and English as a Second Language. We offer classes
in citizenship and GED preparation. In addition, we train
new tutors with three free workshops per year. |
|
Who are the tutors? |
|
Our tutors, who volunteer
their time and efforts to help those who ask for help with
reading and language literacy, come from various towns in
New Jersey and from all walks of life. |
|
How does the
tutoring session work? |
|
Tutors meet with students
in the library once a week, at mutually convenient times.
The average tutoring session lasts from one to two hours. |
|
What about
teaching materials? |
|
The Literacy Collection,
part of the library’s card catalogue, contains numerous
student texts and workbooks as well as teacher manuals. The
Collection includes reference materials, audio and video
tapes. |
